How To Get Creative Things Done On Your Busy Schedule

Written by kitHAUS | posted in Incubation | 0 Comments

Wouldn’t it be nice if the creative types of the world could just hole ourselves up, monk-like, in a supportive environment in which to do nothing but create, on our schedule?! However, life requires that we also deal with getting other logistical, and non-creative tasks done, and generally managing our life.

This article from the99percent is a really valuable guide to balancing logistics with creativity. It provides a systematic way to carve out time for your creative projects that require consistent and quality time.

  • At the beginning of each week, decide on the one (or, at most, two) big creative projects that will receive your attention over the next five days. Ignore the temptation to make a small amount of progress on a large amount of projects. Creative work is hard. If you want high-quality output, you have to focus your energy.
  • Block out time for these projects on your calendar. The increments should at least 1 hour long, and preferably 2 to 3. When you block these hours out depends on your schedule for the week. What’s important, however, is that you treat these blocks like you would any other important appointment: the time is inviolable, and you must work around these blocks when scheduling meetings or other work.

Inspirational Photography: Grandma As Superhero

Written by kitHAUS | posted in Inspiration | 0 Comments

MyModernMet posted an amazing story recently about a photographer who found an incredible way to cheer up his 91-year old grandmother, a holocaust survivor who was struggling with depression and loneliness. Sacha Goldberger shot a series of photos featuring his grandmother Frederika dressed in superhero costume.

Frederika was born in Budapest 20 years before World War II. During the war, at the peril of her own life, she courageously saved the lives of ten people. When asked how, Goldberger told us “she hid the Jewish people she knew, moving them around to different places everyday.” As a survivor of Nazism and Communism, she then immigrated away from Hungary to France, forced by the Communist regime to leave her homeland illegally or face death.

The photos are incredible and since that time, Goldberger reports that his grandmother has not had any more bouts of depression! View the full series at MyModernMet

Instructions vs. Imagination – How do leaders inspire?

Written by kitHAUS | posted in Inspiration | 0 Comments

Fast Company looks at how Lego has evolved over the years, from a playground of imagination for kids to run wild with, to a considerably less inspiring, building-by-numbers, dead end of creativity.

In this new era of business, a key challenge for you as a leader is to develop the imagination of your teams….

The next time you are tempted to issue a set of instructions, try a different approach. Provide the building blocks and then let your team create their own masterpiece. You may just discover that game-changing innovation is already present. It may just be locked inside a team that needs to be instructed not to just follow the instructions.

What tools do you use to inspire your team members? How can businesses better harness and encourage the creativity of their employees?
